The battery system is considered the "soul" of electric vehicles, the technology that carries the core value of this green car. The performance of BEVs is highly dependent on the battery packs. When operating on an electric vehicle, a battery pack is subject to different physical impacts. Therefore, the designer must conduct various studies such as research on optimizing the structural strength of battery packs, shock and collision, battery safety, battery cooling and heat management, battery charging, fatigue, system modeling and control problems. This paper presents the effects of temperature on battery performance and the role of the thermal management system. From there, we propose a method to design and calculate the battery system heat and the thermal management system to ensure the requirements for thermal endurance, safety, reliability, and life cycle. On this basis, the designer can build a battery system design process, including battery cell, battery pack, and battery system layout on BEVs. The calculation methods and design of the BEV battery thermal management system are implemented based on the Simcenter software of Siemens.EnglishDesign method for thermal management of BEV battery systemDesign Kalman filter for estimating orientation in 3D space based on DCM rotation matrix methodArticle
